First edition of this famous book on the inhabitants of Naples, masterfully illustrated with 100 coloured plates depicting the trades and roles of the Neapolitan working classes. 2 volumes, 4to, (258 x 175mm). 100 copper-engraved, coloured plates protected by tissue guards (sporadic spotting to text, some light foxing). Bound in the publisher's brown morocco gilt title, gilt edges, publisher's wrappers bound in. Provenance: Princess Margaret of Scylla, gift dated 1879 to endpapers. (2)
