D'ARAGONA, TULLIA (1510-1556). Il Meschino, altramente detto il Guerrino, fatto in ottava rima. Venice: Sessa, 1560. Scarce first edition (only one at auction in the last 60 years, RBH) published posthumously of this ottava rima remake of 'Guerrin Meschino' based by the author on a Spanish edition without knowledge of the 14th century original by Andrea da Barberino. Tullia d'Aragona was among the most famous and celebrated courtesans of the 16th century; her admirers included Girolamo Muzio, Bernardo Tasso, Benedetto Varchi, and Cardinal Ippolito de' Medici. 4to, (205 x 150mm). Vignette to title page, vignettes at the opening of each canto, engraved initials and headpieces (small hole with loss of part of a letter to f. 81, some light foxing, otherwise a good copy). 18th century binding in half vellum, spine gilt, title gilt to spine, green silk place-marker.
