[SATIRE and CENSURE] CORDARA, Giulio Cesare (1704-1785). De tota Graeculorum.1752. Manuscript of this satirical work by Giulio Cesare Cordara, first published in 1737 and put on the Index in 1739 by Clement XII, based on the Hague edition by Pietro de Hondt. Considered by Carducci a forerunner of Parini's 'Giorno' for its fine irony, the work attacks the new literati critical of the Jesuits, accused of antiquated teaching methods. These new men of letters, promoters of a superficial culture, are represented by the character of Rullo, who embodies the bumptious scholar of the 18th century. 8vo, (190 x 140 mm). Manuscript, pp. 113,[3], text in italics with the exception of letterpress title-page, reproducing that of the Dutch edition of 1752 (light foxing). Contemporary full vellum binding with the arms of the Guasco Marquises of Salero, coloured endpapers (some light wear). (1)
