[ECONOMICS] MCADAM, John Loudon (1756-1836). Primo elemento della forza commerciale ossia Nuovo metodo di costruire le strade. Naples: s.n. (ma Stamperia francese), 1826. First Italian edition based on the London edition of 1822, which also contained 'La magia del credito svelata' at the end of the volume. The real translator of the work was Francesco Fuoco, (not De Welz as written on the title page), whose aim was to provide Sicily with modern infrastructure that would help its economic development. Einaudi 3557; Mattioli 2323; Kress 886. 4to, (275 x 210mm). Two parts in one vol, woodcut vignette to title page depicting a steam wagon in operation in Yorkshire, 5 engraved plates folded several times, including a topographical map of the Simplon road and a map of Sicily, probable autograph signature of De Melz on verso of title-page to prevent counterfeit, (sporadic worming to upper margin of first half of volume, some affecting text, tear to blank upper margin of pp. 287, first leaf detached, restoration to first plate, some wear). Contemporary half-calf binding with printed title, spine gilt (spine detached, some wear). (1)
