Corsica – Freemasonry. MARQUIS D'ARCAMBAL. Signed autograph letter. MARQUIS D'ARCAMBAL, Antoine-Joseph des Lacs. Signed autograph letter. Bastia, 30 June 1786 Bifolio in 4to. 208x165. Laid paper with watermark. Text in French on two pages, two blank pages. Brown ink. Incipit: “je sousigne marechal du camp et armees…”; on the second page, date “Bastia le 30 juin 1786” and signs “Le Marq D’Arcambal”. On the upper margin of the first page and under the text on the second page note in another hand and different ink "timbre extraordinaire" with the date 26 April 1792 and signature 'Capin'. Good condition. In this letter the Marquis declares to cede to the treasurer of the troops in Corsica two Share Titles, for a total of 2,400 lire "à ses risques, périls et fortunes" (at his own risk, peril and fortune). The Marquis d'Arcambal, 1728-1790, field marshal and commander of the provinces of Rouergue and Quercy, first grand supervisor of the Chamber of Paris, president of the Chamber of Administration, became a leading figure of French Freemasonry: admitted to the lodge La Candeur, Orient de Paris in 1772, then to that of the Nine Sisters in 1778, was official and 'Grand Conservateur' of the Grand Orient of France.
