This decree constitutes one of the first government acts aimed at the professional recognition of surgeons, who at the time were still a heterogeneous body and often in contrast with doctors, university graduates, despite the fact that it had already been created in Paris in 1731 by Georges Mareschal , first surgeon of Louis XV, the Academie Royale de Chirurgie. Bound with: Edit du Roi, Portant suppression des vingt-cinq Offices d’Inspecteurs & Controleurs creex dans la communaute des Barbiers-perruquiers de Paris… donne a Versailles au mois d’Avril 1746.Paris, Imprimerie Royale, 17464to. 253x195 mm. Pages 4. Illustrated woodcut headpiece with allegory and symbols of barbers. Good condition. First edition. This edict concerning barbers-hairdressers, who still practiced surgery and folk medicine, was issued at the suggestion of the eminent surgeon François La Peyronien, 1678 – 1747, who was the first surgeon and confidant of King Louis XV. The beautiful allegorical headpiece depicts a seated woman with one eye on her chest, next to her two rods of Asclepius, symbol of medicine.

The documents from China are very important: the bank draft of the Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corporation, the telegrams of the Imperial Chinese Telegraphs, the invoices of companies active in Hong Kong and in Lang-son.The documents are all addressed to the French diplomat Pierre-Remi Bons d'Anty, 1859-1916, at the time consul of France in Tonkin, who had a brilliant career and was also the author of several works on China.

Large illustrated woodcut headpiece with shield surmounted by crown and lilies of France, with signature “Papillon sculp.” Good condition. First edition. Recognition by the King of special privileges for the inhabitants of the County Venaissin and the city of Avignon, whose representative at the Etats Generaux was Joseph François Xavier de Seytres Caumont. The beautiful allegorical head, with the emblems of France surrounded by four putti representing science and the arts, is engraved by Jean Michel Papillon, a very renowned artist; long linked to the Royal Printing House in the function of «de graveur en taille de bois». Papillon produced, both for this establishment and for booksellers and printers, a considerable number of ornaments of all kinds, as well as articles on his art from the Encyclopedia of Diderot and D'Alembert.
