Brazil. MONTANUS. Urbis Salvador. Etching of 290x355 mm. Clear engraving. Nice specimen. Attractive panoramic view of San Salvador in the state of Bahia, Brazil. Fine copper engraving of the walled city of Salvador with ships and boats filling the harbor in the foreground. A lettered key at top left identifies numerous interesting points. Salvador was the first major port of colonial Brazil. Map take from the work: “De nieuwe en onbekende weereld” (Dutch) or “The New and Unknown World” (English). The work was published in Amsterdam in 1671 by Jacon Meurs.
