Gio. Lorenzo Bernini”. Small abrasion in the lower right corner, which does not affect the image; homogeneous browning and minor defects, overall in good condition. Splendid impression of this beautiful view of the celebration held on the occasion of Pope Clement X's taking possession of the recently completed Sant'Angelo bridge and the restored Sant'Angelo Castle. The print offers the perspective of the bridge adorned with the famous statues that Bernini and his workshop created, a magnificent work completed in 1669 when Pope Clement IX died. The statue in the right row, the "Angel with the Cross", a masterpiece by Ercole Ferrata, was completed only in 1670 and the following year the bridge was formally inaugurated. In the foreground, the ‘sedia gestatoria ‘ holding Pope Clement X followed by his College of Cardinals. Bernini executed the drawing and entrusted the engraving to Giovanni Battista Falda, the most successful architectural engraver in Rome.
