MONDO, Domenico. Holy preaches to the pagans. Drawing.1717-1808 Sheet of 246x187 mm. Watercolor on ivory paper: brush with black and gray ink and touches of white lead. Good conditions. Beautiful watercolor that combines the sacred and the profane. The setting suggests a study for an altarpiece, with the preacher in the upper part dominated by angels in the midst of the clouds: the foreground is a naked young woman pointing to the saint. Domenico Mondo, an exponent of the Neapolitan Baroque, worked mainly between Naples and Caserta: in 1789, the year in which I was appointed director of the Neapolitan Academy of Drawing, on the offer of Ferdinand IV.

NAZARI, Bartolomeo. Portrait of a Lady. Drawing. 1699 - 1758 Sheet of mm. 295x220. Pastel technique with black and white chalk on gray-blue laid paper and sign of watermark. Very light foxing. Good condition. The portrait is in an oval. The sheet comes from the same album, a drawing of which, now at the Pierpont Morgan Library in New York, is described by Stampfle as follows: "One of the nine portraits in the Scholz collection that comes from an album whose writing with the name of the ancient owners, Familia Agudia and Sormani, indicates a Lombard provenance ... These drawings with portraits were attributed by a previous owner to Pietro Longhi, and it was Mr. Scholtz who in 1947 correctly identified the author in the Nazari”. It is then added that another similar portrait, by the same hand, is in the collection of Walter C. Baker, now in the Metropolitan Museum of New York.

Un gaillard de cinq pieds six pouces...”The cartoonist Louis Frick was a prolific illustrator of humorous contributions in numerous French publications from the 1930s onwards. His works appeared in, among others, "Marianne" (33), "L'Avant-Garde" (34), "La Flèche" (34-35), "Freitag" (36-37), "Grüsse" (38-39), "Messidor" (38-39), and "Le Canard Encha'iné" (34-40). His clean, precise style gained great popularity and made him a well-known figure in his time. After WWII, he continued his career as an illustrator at "Le Hérisson" and at "Képi Blanc," the latter being a monthly magazine of the Foreign Legion, in which he had served earlier. Additionally, he primarily worked as a jewelry designer.
