Ampia tracolla in cuoio marrone grosso, con dodici contenitori a cartiglio torniti (in legno massiccio, non apribili) su cordicelle di cuoio, con un astuccio portapalle in cuoio grigio fissato in basso. Una bandoliera per spada in cuoio marrone grosso e fibbie in metallo laccato nero (sfregate). Condizioni solide e intatte, solo segni d'uso e d'età. Lunghezza totale 100 e 90 cm. Condizione: II +

Mit Wasserzeichen (Löwe mit Schwert und Initialen C.D.L.). - Das außergewöhnliche Manuskript vereint 18 handgeschriebene Fabeln in fein leserlicher und geschwungener Schrift. Die lavierten Federzeichnungen, welche die Fabeln begleiten sind mit äußerster Sorgfalt ausgeführt und illustrieren das Werk wunderbar in ihrer minutiösen Darstellung der Tiere und Landschaften. Als Vorbild für das vorliegende Manuskript und die Zeichnungen schien eine von Sadeler illustrierte Ausgabe der Fabeln zu dienen, welche 1743 in Paris erschien: Les fables d'Ésope gravées par Sadeler, avec un discours préliminaire & les sens moraux en distiques. - Papierbedingt gebräunt. Im oberen Rand etwas gewellt. Vereinzelt etwas fleckig. Einige Bll. mit kleinem Wasserfleck. Insgesamt sehr gut erhalten. French manuscript with 18 hand drawings. Late 18th / early 19th c. Modern half cloth with marbled boards and mounted cover label (somewhat rubbed). - With watermark (lion with sword and initials C.D.L.). - This extraordinary manuscript combines 18 handwritten fables in finely legible and curved script. The pen-and-ink drawings accompanying the fables are executed with the utmost care and beautifully illustrate the work in their meticulous depiction of animals and landscapes. The model for the present manuscript and drawings seems to have been a French edition of the fables illustrated by Sadeler in 1743. - Paper browned. Somewhat wavy in the upper part. Sporadically somewhat spotted. A few leaves with a small water stain. Overall very well preserved.

Der Zinkguss eingeschlagen in nummerierter Textildecke. - Rachel Whiteread wurde für diese Ausgabe eingeladen, ein für sie besonders wichtiges Buch auszuwählen, für das sie dann eine neue Schutzumschlag entwirft und unter ihrem eigenen Namen als "Reprint" präsentiert. In diesem Fall hat der Künstler Mike and the Modelmakers' von M. Sasek gewählt, das 1970 veröffentlicht wurde. Das Londoner Studio von Whiteread lag gegenüber der Firma Lesney, die in den 1970er Jahren der Spielzeughersteller des Matchbox-Autos war. "I chose this book because it is related to where I live and how I work. My old studio was next to the site of the original matchbox factory. As a child I played with matchbox cars, now my children play with them. A lot of those industrial buildings have been demolished in readiness for the 2012 Olympics. I found an original copy of this book in a junk shop in the late 1980's, it seemed like a fitting tribute to those old buildings and the author / illustrator M.Sasek and to those great matchbox cars. Viaggio in Cocincina negli anni 1792 e 1793: contenente una visione generale delle preziose produzioni e dell'importanza politica di questo fiorente regno, nonché degli insediamenti europei visitati durante il viaggio, con schizzi delle maniere, del carattere e della condizione dei vari abitanti: a cui è allegato il resoconto di un viaggio compiuto negli anni 1801 e 1802, fino alla residenza del capo della nazione Booshuana, il punto più remoto dell'interno dell'Africa meridionale in cui gli europei siano finora penetrati: i fatti e le descrizioni sono tratti da un diario manoscritto con una carta del percorso. Prima edizione illustrata con 20 tavole incise all'acquatinta e migliorate e una mappa a doppia pagina con contorni migliorati. John Barrow, che aveva partecipato all'ambasciata di Lord Macartney in Cina, pubblicò nel 1806 questa interessante descrizione dei paesi visitati durante il viaggio: Madeira, le Canarie, Rio de Janeiro, il Capo di Buona Speranza, Batavia, ecc. Include un importante resoconto di un viaggio alle Boushouanas, che descrive una regione ancora sconosciuta del Sudafrica, nonché una descrizione dell'isola di Giava e della Cochinchina (Vietnam meridionale), di cui questo è il primo resoconto illustrato.
