Bicorne e casacca per funzionari del k.u.k., 1900 ca. Bellissimo bicorne per l'uniforme di gala dei funzionari dello Stato civile in feltro nero setoso, bordatura in gros-grain nero su tutto il perimetro, una rosa di bouillon dorata con un'aquila bicipite ricamata in oro in ciascuna delle punte del cappello. Ai lati, treccia dorata in stile funzionario su bottone placcato oro con aquila bicipite coronata, fodera di seta bianca con timbro del fabbricante in oro "Moritz Tiller & Co, Vienna", fascia antisudore in pelle color ocra. Viene fornito con (non abbinato) un gonnellino blu scuro con spalline per funzionari, bottoni dorati e fodera di seta nera (alcuni piccoli difetti, vecchie riparazioni), etichetta del sarto Wilhelm Beck, Vienna. Fein gesticktes Rangabzeichen eines chinesischen Zivilbeamten aus Seide, vermutlich aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. Das Madarin-Quadrat (chin.: Buzi) wurde auf der Vorder- und Rückseite der offiziellen Robe getragen, um den jeweiligen Rang zu kennzeichnen. Im Zentrum steht ein Reiher mit ausgebreiteten Schwingen umgeben von Wellen. Der Vogel war das Symbol des sechsten Ranges der Beamten am Hof der Qing-Dynastie. Das Motiv ist in der Mitte geteilt, wobei der Vogel auf seiner linken, leicht nach oben gerichteten Seite zu einer roten Sonne aufblickt, was darauf hindeutet, dass es sich um einen Teil der Vorderseite der Robe eines männlichen Beamten handelt. - Etwas angestaubt und vereinzelt mit gelösten Fäden. Farben schön erhalten. China - Silk embroidery with mandarin square. Qing dynasty (1614-1911). In brocade frame and framed under glass (unopened, frame with defects). - Finely embroidered silk rank badge of a Chinese civil servant, probably from the 19th century. The madarin square (chin.: buzi) was worn on the front and back of the official robe to indicate the respective rank. In the centre is a heron with outstretched wings surrounded by waves. The bird symbolised the sixth rank of officials at the Qing dynasty court. The motif is divided in the centre, with the bird on its left, slightly upward-facing side looking up at a red sun, indicating that it is part of the front of a male official's robe. - Somewhat worn and with occasional loosened threads. Colours beautifully preserved.

In diesem Fall hat der Künstler Mike and the Modelmakers' von M. Sasek gewählt, das 1970 veröffentlicht wurde. Das Londoner Studio von Whiteread lag gegenüber der Firma Lesney, die in den 1970er Jahren der Spielzeughersteller des Matchbox-Autos war. "I chose this book because it is related to where I live and how I work. My old studio was next to the site of the original matchbox factory. As a child I played with matchbox cars, now my children play with them. A lot of those industrial buildings have been demolished in readiness for the 2012 Olympics. I found an original copy of this book in a junk shop in the late 1980's, it seemed like a fitting tribute to those old buildings and the author / illustrator M.Sasek and to those great matchbox cars. One of 40 copies of the special edition, signed and numbered by Whiteread herself.
