Una pallash M 1896 per gli ufficiali di cavalleria Lama pesante e dritta a un solo taglio, piombata su entrambi i lati, con marchi di accettazione e le iscrizioni incise "Le Grand Triomphe / À L. Le Masson" alla base, firmata "Coulaux & Cie Klingenthal" sul retro. Elsa a cestello in metallo non ferroso dorato, impugnatura in corno scuro, avvolgimento completo a filo fisso. Fodero in acciaio nichelato (tracce di ruggine, ammaccature) con anello di sospensione mobile. La lama non può essere inserita completamente nel fodero (deformazione del fodero). Leggermente danneggiato in alcuni punti, segni dell'età. Lunghezza della pallascia 104 cm. Condizione: II

Giochi olimpici/ estate 1896/ Atene/ Tre grandi opere sul primo campione olimpico della storia moderna, lo studente americano James Brendan Connolly (1868-1957): a) "An Olympic Victor, a study of the modern games", di James Brendan Connolly, copertina illustrata, il Partenone di Atene, con sei illustrazioni di André Castaigne (1861-1929). 1908, 186 pagine (prima edizione) b) piccola lettera manoscritta del 1906, con bella firma di James B. Connolly (molto, molto rara); c) "Sea Borne, thirty years Avoyaging" di James B. Connolly, 1944, 246 pagine. Il primo campione olimpico della storia (il 6 aprile 1896, nel salto triplo, con 13m71) fu anche un notevole giornalista e scrittore, autore di una ventina di romanzi. Prima di ricevere il Premio Pulitzer, aveva aperto il nuovo palmarès olimpico, e lo aveva addirittura migliorato arrivando 2° nel salto in alto (1m65) e 3° nel salto in lungo (6m11) (il suo libro ne racconta la storia). Nel 1900, a Parigi, migliorò tre volte la sua prestazione (13m97), arrivando secondo. Va notato che era alto solo 1m52 e che nel 1896, a 27 anni, dovette interrompere il suo contratto di studente ad Harvard per andare ad Atene. Questa originale raccolta su un atleta straordinario (quattro volte medaglia olimpica e vincitore del Premio Pulitzer) è davvero eccezionale. Arriving at the Bridge of Helium (today the Bridge of Sant'Angelo), in front of the Castellum Crescentii (ancient mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian), the miracle took place. Pope Gregory looked towards the top of the castle, and there he observed the great figure of the archangel St. Michael, sheathing his sword, who welcomes them, very possibly being a commemorative commission from the Archbishopric to the master from Palencia to decorate a newly built church or cathedral.
