Payne, Paris Furniture: the luxury market of the 19th century, Éditions Monelle Hayot, 2018, p. 77 (illustrato). Firmato Aph Giroux Paris. Misure: 89,5 x 48 x 48 cm. Etagère in bronzo dorato e vetro in stile giapponese. I prodotti giapponesi divennero sempre più familiari a Parigi grazie alla grande esposizione nel padiglione giapponese all'Esposizione Universale del 1867 e successivamente a Vienna nel 1873. Le ditte parigine Christofle e Barbedienne furono le principali esponenti della nuova moda del giapponismo. Il Japonisme si applicava principalmente ai mobili in metallo con poca o nessuna lavorazione del legno. Nelle arti decorative occidentali si mescolano motivi giapponesi e giapponesi in uno stesso oggetto, il che può rendere spesso difficile, se non impossibile, definire con precisione se l'oggetto debba essere descritto come cineseria o giapponismo. Una rivista newyorkese chiamata Art Amateur è stata una delle prime a usare il termine "japanesque" come risposta appropriata al mobile di Giroux. Due creatori di design e primi sostenitori dello stile orientale a Parigi furono Giroux e Duvinage. Il primo vendette il suo negozio a Ferdinand Duvinage e al suo socio Harinckouk nel 1867. Giroux adattò principalmente l'arte cinese; la sua pubblicazione Meubles et fantaisies, del 1840 circa, mostra tavoli in questo nuovo idioma alla moda e ricorda i mobili in cartapesta dello stesso periodo. Die Handschrift befand sich u.a. im Besitz des Kurfürsten Maximilian I. von Bayern und schmückte dessen Residenz. - Tadellos erhaltenes, nahezu neuwertiges Exemplar. Teils mit beschnittenem Wasserzeichen J. Whatman 1794. - Prachtvolle und farbleuchtende Sammlung feinzeichnerischer Pflanzen-Darstellungen. Als Vorlage diente das zwischen 1786 und 1792 in Wien und Leipzig erschienene Werk "Plantarum indigenarum et exoticarum icones ad vivum coloratae, oder, Sammlung nach der Natur gemalter Abbildungen inn- und ausländlischer Pflanzen". Wie auch in der zweimonatig erschienenen Pflanzenzeitschrift sind die vorliegenden Blätter mit handschriftlichen Titeln in deutscher und lateinischer Sprache versehen. Enthält neben Darstellungen einheimischer und exotischer Pflanzen auch einige Zeichnungen von Pilzen. - Papierbedingt etwas gebräunt und sehr vereinzelt unscheinbar fleckig. As in the bimonthly plant journal, the present drawings have handwritten titles in German and Latin. Contains illustrations of native and exotic plants as well as some drawings of fungi. - Paper somewhat browned and very occasionally inconspicuously stained. Overall a very well-preserved and varied collection.
