Interessante Sammlung von Genre-Szenen in Anlehnung an Kompositionen niederländischer Meister des 17. Jahrhunderts wie David Teniers und Adriaen van Ostade, die das Leben von Bürgern und Bauern zeigen mit Rauchern, Trinkern, Spielern, Quacksalbern, Tänzern etc. Die Darstellungen sind in Trompe-l'Oeil-Manier als Bild im Bild gemalt und vermitteln die Illusion, auf ein an einer Holzwand befestigtes Kunstwerk zu schauen. - Vereinzelt mit leichten Bereibungen und teils etwas fleckig. Overall good. - Jesus Christ is depicted on the cross, with one of the apostles weeping at his feet. - We locate the painting in the German school of the first half of the 19th century.

Julius Christian Rehder betätigte sich vor allem als Landschafts- und Bildnismaler. Eine klassische Ausbildung erhielt er in Karlsruhe unter Ferdinand Keller und in Berlin unter Anton von Werner.
