Two drawings front and back in pen with brown ink on ivory laid paper with a sign of watermark. Good condition. Two drawings on a single sheet, in the quick and incisive style typical of Novelli: the Temptations on the recto, the Vision on the back. Pietro Antonio Novelli in his artistic training was based on the great Venetian masters of the tradition, such as Giovanni Antonio Pellegrini, Giovanni Battista Piazzetta and Gaspare Diziani. In the numerous frescoes and altarpieces there are also elements of the Venetian Rococò, which was influenced by the frequentation of Jacopo Amigoni.

On the verso 4 studies figures, brush with sepia ink. Giuseppe Vallardi collection stamp, lower left. Some losses along the magins. Good conditions. Great scene with many characters, in the center the Holy Family with the Madonna and St. Joseph kneeling, above two small angels: some secondary figures, two on the door on the right, a child running to the left foreground and a dog on the opposite side, give the design depth, liveliness and movement. On the back four quick studies of characters in ancient garments. Sante Piatti, a pupil of Diamantini, worked almost exclusively in Venice, where he enjoyed considerable fame. Works by him are present at the Scuola dei Carmini, in the churches of Santo Stefano, San Moisè, San Nicolò dei Frari, and at the Correr Museum.

Folio, (310 x 210mm). Printer's device, numerous marginal annotations in Latin in black ink, and in Greek in red ink (light dampstain at head of inner margin). Fine contemporary calf binding with a four-lobed medallion with the name SINPLICIUS (sic) in gold and fortune on the verso impressed in gold, dark edges (spine rebacked, lacking clasps). Provenance:'Emmanuelis et amicorum' (contemporary inscription to colophon); ex libris: Walter Ashbourne, Florence (stamp on title page and at end). (1)
