In 2° massimo (1955 x 1100 mm circa), 8 fogli montati su tela, didascalie in inglese, francese, italiano e tedesco, coloritura coeva all'acquerello, entro cofanetto coeva in cartonato blu con cartiglio al dorso (spellatura al cofanetto). Bellissima carta della Repubblica di Genova che deriva direttamente da quella di Chaffrion del 1685. Gravier ne farà una ristampa nel 1784 a Genova.

Macchie di umidità alle prime carte, pagina finale con rinforzo e piccolo foro di tarlo, difetti. Bella edizione con le mappe dei quattro continenti incise da Giuseppe Rosaccio. Di particolare interesse è la mappa dell'America che deriva dalla mappa delle Americhe di Giovanni Lorenzo d'Anania del 1582 e ulteriormente basata sulla geografia di Ortelius. Notevole il caratteristico rigonfiamento della costa occidentale del Sud America e dell'enorme continente meridionale che si collega alla Nuova Guinea. Anian e Quivira compaiono sulla costa occidentale del Nord America. Giovanni Botero (1544 – 1617) fu considerato per più di un secolo il miglior geografo esistente. Most notable is the characteristic bulge to the west coast of South America and the huge Southern Continent that attaches to Nova Guinea. Anian and Quivira appear on North America's bulbous western coast. The map of Africa extends to show the Arabian Peninsula and parts of Brazil. Antiporta incisa da Charles Simonneau, con una mappa dell’isola, Frontespizio con grande vignetta incisa, cinque grandi testatine figurate incise. Ex libris del Canonico Astre di Carcassone e antico Ex-libris araldico incollato al verso del Frontespizio. Sapiente restauro alla legatura, insignificante traccia di tarlo sul margine di alcune pagine, lieve velatura di umidità nella parte superiore delle ultime pagine, buon esemplare. Rara prima edizione francese. Opera figurata con la mappa di Cipro nell’antiporta allegorica ed episodi della guerra tra Venezia e Turchia illustrati nelle belle Testatine. È tracciata la storia di Cipro, dal dominio veneziano e alla conquista turca, nel 1571; traduzione dal latino di Louis-Antoine Le Peletier. Ex libris by Canon Astre from Carcassone and ancient heraldic Ex-libris pasted on the verso of the titlepage. Skilful restoration to the binding, insignificant woodworm sign on the margin of some pages, slight dampstaining to the top of the last few pages, good copy. Rare first French edition. Illustrated work with a map of Cyprus in the allegorical frontispiece and episodes from the war between Venice and Turkey illustrated in the fine headpieces. Atabey: 'One of the basic sources for the Turkish conquest of Cyprus in 1572'. The history of Cyprus is traced from Venetian rule to the Turkish conquest in 1571; translation from Latin by Louis-Antoine Le Peletier. Cyprus remained under Ottoman rule until 1878, when it was ceded to Britain as a protectorate.

Legatura coeva in piena pelle con fregi a secco, sguardie marmorizzate. Antiporta, Frontespizio inciso, 29 tavole calcografiche, foglio con indice delle tavole, 6 tavole aggiuntive relative ai principati tedeschi sempre edite da Lobeck. In totale 35 tavole in coloritura coeva. Ex libris Horace Landau. Lievi difetti alla legatura. Internamente qualche leggera traccia d’umidità. Interessante 'Pocket Atlas' con le raffinate carte acquarellate d’epoca incise da Tobias Lobeck su disegni del Lotter, mentre antiporta e frontespizio sono stati disegnati da Gottfried Eichler. L'Atlante comprende: un doppio emisfero del mondo, un doppio emisfero con la mappa celeste, carte dell'Europa, dell'Asia, dell'Africa e delle Americhe, e vari paesi e regioni d'Europa, molti dei quali ornati da un cartiglio. La mappa intitolata “America” mostra sia l'America del Nord che quella del Sud, con la parte settentrionale in una fase non ancora completata, poiché questa zona era ancora in gran parte inesplorata. Total of 35 contemporary coloring plates. Ex Libris of Horace Landau. Slight defects on binding. Some slight waterstains on some sheets. Interesting ‘Pocket Atlas’ with fine contemporary watercolor maps engraved by Tobias Lobeck from drawings by Lotter, while the frontispiece and the title-page were designed by Gottfried Eichler.The Atlas includes: a double-hemisphere map of the world, a double planisphere of the heavens, maps of Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, and various countries and regions of Europe, many ornate with a cartouche. The map titled "America" shows both North and South America with the northern portion in a somewhat unfinished stage, since this area was still largely unexplored. In the Asia's map, the northern coast of Australia. Six additional plates on the German principalities, also published by Lobeck, are added to the volume.

Jacques-Joseph Champollion, fratello del ben più famoso Jean François, il grande decifratore dei geroglifici, pure lui valente archeologo e paleografo, integrò gli studi del fratello, di cui pubblicò alcune opere. L’opera fa parte della collana: L’Universo, o Storia e descrizione di tutti i popoli. 4to; 220x150 mm, quarter leather binding, gilt titles and ornaments at the spine, blue sprayed edges. Pp. 503. 92 litographs and 1 folding map at the end of the vol. Text on 2 columns. Good copy. Beautiful Venetian illustrated edition. Jacques-Joseph Champollion, brother of the most famous Jean François, the great decipherer of the hieroglyphs, he was also a valued archaeologist and paleographer, supplemented his brother's studies, of which he published some works.
