Payne, Paris Furniture: the luxury market of the 19th century, Éditions Monelle Hayot, 2018, p. 77 (illustrato). Firmato Aph Giroux Paris. Misure: 89,5 x 48 x 48 cm. Etagère in bronzo dorato e vetro in stile giapponese. I prodotti giapponesi divennero sempre più familiari a Parigi grazie alla grande esposizione nel padiglione giapponese all'Esposizione Universale del 1867 e successivamente a Vienna nel 1873. Le ditte parigine Christofle e Barbedienne furono le principali esponenti della nuova moda del giapponismo. Il Japonisme si applicava principalmente ai mobili in metallo con poca o nessuna lavorazione del legno. Nelle arti decorative occidentali si mescolano motivi giapponesi e giapponesi in uno stesso oggetto, il che può rendere spesso difficile, se non impossibile, definire con precisione se l'oggetto debba essere descritto come cineseria o giapponismo. Una rivista newyorkese chiamata Art Amateur è stata una delle prime a usare il termine "japanesque" come risposta appropriata al mobile di Giroux. Due creatori di design e primi sostenitori dello stile orientale a Parigi furono Giroux e Duvinage. Il primo vendette il suo negozio a Ferdinand Duvinage e al suo socio Harinckouk nel 1867. Giroux adattò principalmente l'arte cinese; la sua pubblicazione Meubles et fantaisies, del 1840 circa, mostra tavoli in questo nuovo idioma alla moda e ricorda i mobili in cartapesta dello stesso periodo. Fein gesticktes Rangabzeichen eines chinesischen Zivilbeamten aus Seide, vermutlich aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. Das Madarin-Quadrat (chin.: Buzi) wurde auf der Vorder- und Rückseite der offiziellen Robe getragen, um den jeweiligen Rang zu kennzeichnen. Im Zentrum steht ein Reiher mit ausgebreiteten Schwingen umgeben von Wellen. Der Vogel war das Symbol des sechsten Ranges der Beamten am Hof der Qing-Dynastie. Das Motiv ist in der Mitte geteilt, wobei der Vogel auf seiner linken, leicht nach oben gerichteten Seite zu einer roten Sonne aufblickt, was darauf hindeutet, dass es sich um einen Teil der Vorderseite der Robe eines männlichen Beamten handelt. - Etwas angestaubt und vereinzelt mit gelösten Fäden. In brocade frame and framed under glass (unopened, frame with defects). - Finely embroidered silk rank badge of a Chinese civil servant, probably from the 19th century. The madarin square (chin.: buzi) was worn on the front and back of the official robe to indicate the respective rank. In the centre is a heron with outstretched wings surrounded by waves. The bird symbolised the sixth rank of officials at the Qing dynasty court. The motif is divided in the centre, with the bird on its left, slightly upward-facing side looking up at a red sun, indicating that it is part of the front of a male official's robe. - Somewhat worn and with occasional loosened threads. Colours beautifully preserved.
