Beautiful and rare geographical map depicting the territory of the Duchy of Luxembourg and the Belgian territory including the Marquisate of Franchimont, Lordship of Ochen (Liège), Principality of Durbuy, Principality of Bastogne, Lordship of Clervaux, Lordship of Tomen, Abbey of Stablo, etc. The map, printed mainly for use and consumption of the military, is striking for its accuracy in the hydrographic and woodland indications, as well as the topography of the small settlements in the illustrated region. Eugène-Henri Fricx (1644-1730) was a printer, bookseller and engraver from Brussels. He was active from 1670 until his death, printing numerous history books and military maps of Belgium.

Jacques Nicolas Bellin, royal hydrographer and engineer-geographer of the navy and of the Depot of Maps and Plans, compiled several atlases of nautical leaves for military and commercial use, here entirely reproduced on a smaller scale with the addition of new material (NMM). The maps are arranged geographically, starting with North America and the Antilles, followed by South America, then Asia, Africa, Europe and detailed coastal maps of France. Particularly interesting is the first volume devoted to North America, which also includes plans of Quebec, Boston, New York, Philadelphia, New Orleans and other major colonial cities. Santini, 1776. First edition of this atlas by the brothers Paolo and Francesco Santini, considered one of the most important universal atlases printed in Italy in the 18th century. The editors substantially reproduced, retaining toponyms and inscriptions in French, the Atlas Universel published in Paris in 1757 by Gilles and Didier Robert de Vaugondy, but made several changes, especially to the maps of the Italian regions. The plates, signed by Paolo Santini and his brother Francesco, are based on the works of the best geographers of the time: d'Anville, Bellin, Bonne, Boscovich, Clarici, De L'Isle, Homan, Jaillot, Janvier, de Vaugondy, and Rizzi Zannoni. 2 vols, Folio, (540 x 395mm). Engraved title-page to first volume, 2 index plates at the beginning of each volume, 123 maps divided as follows: 60 double-page maps for the first volume, 63 for the second, contemporary watercolour borders, contemporary manuscript title sand numbering to versos of maps (in very good condition except for the first volume: small wormhole to inner margin of the first twenty leaves affecting the printing area but not particularly visible, ff. 32-34 and 37 with small waterstain to lower margin; in the second: tear to lower margin of ff. 1, 12 and 13 not affecting engraving). Contemporary interim binding with marbled sides, patterned Venetian paper spine. (2)
