La Méhari fu una di quelle auto che soltanto un’azienda come la Citroen poteva produrre: basata sul telaio della versione commerciale della 2 CV era leggerissima grazie alla sua carrozzeria in plastica e servì non solo come auto da divertimento puro, ma servì ad eserciti, unità di soccorso e come mezzo da lavoro. La carrozzeria consentiva una varietà di combinazioni ed era totalmente modulabile. Tale era la sua efficacia che la Citroen la produsse anche come 4x4: apprezzata da Theirry Sabine, la Méhari servì anche come auto da ricognizione e come auto medica alla prima Parigi Dakar del 1979. La Méhari qui proposta è stata acquistata dall’attuale proprietario nel novembre 2019 e ha subito un restauro integrale nella primavera 2020, venendo completata nell’estate dello stesso anno. Il restauro ha interessato tutta la parte della meccanica e della carrozzeria che era stata nel tempo riverniciata in un colore non conforme a quello originale che era Orange Kirghiz. Dalla documentazione in nostro possesso, la vettura sembra essere stata consegnata da nuova nella Repubblica di San Marino e che sia poi stata immatricolata in Italia successivamente: la targa Siena attualmente presente è stata applicata sulla vettura nel 1982. Questa simpatica Méhari ha percorso soltanto 300 km dal restauro ed è in condizioni perfette, pronta per la bella stagione. The Méhari was one of those cars that only a company like Citroen could produce: based on the chassis of the commercial version of the 2CV, it was extremely light thanks to its plastic bodywork and served not only as a pure fun car, but also for armies, rescue units and as a work vehicle. The bodywork allowed a variety of combinations and was totally modular. Such was its effectiveness that Citroen also produced it as a 4x4: appreciated by Theirry Sabine, the Méhari also served as a reconnaissance car and as a medical car at the first Paris Dakar in 1979. The Méhari offered here was purchased by the current owner in November 2019 and underwent a complete restoration in spring 2020, being completed in the summer of the same year. The restoration involved all the mechanicals and bodywork that had been repainted over time in a colour that did not conform to the original colour, which was Orange Kirghiz. From the documentation in our possession, the car appears to have been delivered when new to the Republic of San Marino and to have been registered in Italy at a later date: the current Siena plate was affixed to the car in 1982. This lovely Méhari has covered only 300 km since restoration and is in perfect condition, ready for the summer.
