A Balkan-Ottoman yatagan, 2nd half of the 19th century Lame typiquement incurvée, inscription et marque de forge sur le quart de la lame. Monture de la lame, virole et garde de la poignée en argent repoussé et gravé de motifs floraux. La monture de la lame manque au dos, la poignée présente un petit manque sur la face inférieure. Poignée en corne, avec de petits dommages au niveau du pommeau. Longueur 76 cm. Condition : II -

The plant classification developed by the French botanist and professor of medicine Tournefort (1656-1708) remained the standard throughout Europe until superseeded by the nomenclature introduced by Linnaeus in 1753. He took with him the painter Aubriet "to enrich the collections of the king and those of the Academy. His rigid determination to stick closely to his scientific aims prevented him from noting many things that a more naive traveller would have described" (Cox). - Occasionally browned.
