Publication faisant suite à la thèse de l'auteur présentée en 1968 aux Etats-Unis. Son travail s’étend de la moitié du XIXème siècle jusqu’à la fin du XXème siècle. Au-delà de l’aspect monographique du livre, le livre prône un message politique « dans toute production culturelle, il y a une origine politique », l’histoire politique de la région se répercutant sur les mouvements et tendances de la scène picturale en Palestine riche de son melting pot. Kamal Ballatah (1942-2019) : pionnier des arts plastiques en Palestine et historien palestinien, expatrié il vécut aux Etats-Unis, en France et au Maroc, nombreuses expositions internationales.
