Teils mit beschnittenem Wasserzeichen J. Whatman 1794. - Prachtvolle und farbleuchtende Sammlung feinzeichnerischer Pflanzen-Darstellungen. Als Vorlage diente das zwischen 1786 und 1792 in Wien und Leipzig erschienene Werk "Plantarum indigenarum et exoticarum icones ad vivum coloratae, oder, Sammlung nach der Natur gemalter Abbildungen inn- und ausländlischer Pflanzen". Wie auch in der zweimonatig erschienenen Pflanzenzeitschrift sind die vorliegenden Blätter mit handschriftlichen Titeln in deutscher und lateinischer Sprache versehen. Enthält neben Darstellungen einheimischer und exotischer Pflanzen auch einige Zeichnungen von Pilzen. - Papierbedingt etwas gebräunt und sehr vereinzelt unscheinbar fleckig. The work "Plantarum indigenarum et exoticarum icones ad vivum coloratae, oder, Sammlung nach der Natur gemalter Abbildungen inn- und ausländlischer Pflanzen", published in Vienna and Leipzig between 1786 and 1792, served as a model. As in the bimonthly plant journal, the present drawings have handwritten titles in German and Latin. Contains illustrations of native and exotic plants as well as some drawings of fungi. - Paper somewhat browned and very occasionally inconspicuously stained. Overall a very well-preserved and varied collection.

Ganzflächiges Craquelé. Punktuelle, wenige Farbausbrüche. Angeschmutzt und Firniß gegilbt. Insgesamt noch gut. Italien - Deutsch-Römer Dorf an der italienischen Mittelmeerküste. 1850er Jahre. Öl auf Leinwand. 25 x 41 cm. Im goldfarbenen Stuckrahmen gerahmt. - Kanten vereinzelt mit leichtem Farbabrieb als Spur der Rahmung. Ganzflächiges Craquelé. Punktuelle, wenige Farbausbrüche. Angeschmutzt und Firniß gegilbt. Insgesamt noch gut. Dem Stil und Motiv entsprechend, stammt unser Gemälde vermutlich von einem sog. Deutsch-Römer, einem der vielen romantisch veranlagten deutschen Malern, die sich im 19. Jh. nach Italien aufmachten, um den Sehnsuchtsort bildnerisch einzufangen. Die Faszination war häufig der Grund, dass die deutschen Künstler Ihre Reisen unvorhergesehen ausdehnten auf teils jahrzehntelange Aufenthalte, vor allem lokalisiert um Dörfer bei Rom. Im Zuge dessen gründeten einige auch sog. Künstlerkolonien wie diese in Olevano südlich von Rom, wo sich die Maler konzentriert aufhielten und zusammenlebten. Der Begriff "Deutsch-Römer" rührt daher von ihrer Nationalität sowie der neuen Wahlheimat. Oil on canvas. Framed in golden stucco frame. - Edges with slight colour abrasion in places as traces of framing. Craquelure. A few isolated losses of colour. Soiled and varnish yellowed. Overall still good. - In accordance with the style and motif, our painting was probably created by a so-called German-Roman, one of the many romantically inclined German painters who travelled to Italy in the 19th century in order to capture the place of longing. This fascination was often the reason why the German artists unexpectedly extended their travels to sometimes decades-long stays, mainly localised around villages near Rome. In the course of this, some also founded so-called artists' colonies such as this one in Olevano near Rome, where the painters concentrated and lived together. The term "Deutsch-Römer" derives from their nationality and their new adopted home.
