Merlin), 1825. 2 vol., 8vo (occ. foxing). Contemp. half calf (sl. rubbed, lack of leather on spine of vol. II). First edition. Dubois (1765-1848) was a French catholic missionary in India, member of the Society of Foreign Missions of Paris. He failed in converting Indians but he is remembered there for having adopted the way of life (vegeterianism, clothing...). - 2. Warren, Édouard de - L'Inde anglaise. Paris, au comptoir des imprimeurs-unis (by Renouard), 1844. 2 vol., 8vo (foxing concentrated on some ff.). Green calf signed by Simier (spines sl. darkened, part. sl. rubbed). First Fr. edition. Warren was born in India and was an officier in the British army serving in India from 1832 to 1839. Prov. Crowned monogram "HS" on spines, i.e. maybe Lord H. Seymour (1805-1859), "Milord Arsouille" or Lord Richard Wallace, marquis of Hertford. - G.H. (bookpl., with a ms. note saying it is rare to find the signature of Simier on books he bound for Seymour).
