290 - LUX PERESTRELLO, Jordao: 5 historic views of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands. c. 1900. Silver prints (aristotype), 16.5 x 21.8 cm, photographer’s stamp on the reverse (slight fading). Views of the city, the harbor, the locals, bustling streets with horse-drawn carriages and shops, and a panoramic view. Between 1900 and 1909, Jordão da Luz Perestrello (c. 1860–c. 1915), originally from Madeira, settled in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The quality of his photographs lies both in his framing (some of which are panoramic) and in his mastery of photographic technique. His photographs were taken mainly in Gran Canaria, Tenerife, and Madeira.
