PLATEAU, Camille Large photograph of the Goliath, the first French civil transport aircraft. c. 1920 Silver print, 54 x 74.5 cm, mounted on cardboard, signed on the front (worn edges, scratches, creases). View of a group of people posing in front of the Goliath, including civilians, mechanics, and pilots, one of whom may be Lucien Bossoutrot. Originally a bomber, the Goliath was converted after 1918 into a transport aircraft capable of carrying 12 passengers, a role it served until 1930. Camille Plateau was a French photographer and postcard publisher active during the interwar period, specializing in photojournalism and major events, notably the rise of commercial aviation and the early days of Le Bourget Airport. He captured images of the first passengers, crews, and aircraft of that era.
