163 - FOULQUIER, Valentin; STENDHAL Set of artist's proofs of the illustrations for *The Charterhouse of Parma*. [Paris: L. Conquet, 1883] In-f°: 65 plates (some plates and the covers are slightly foxed). Cherry-colored long-grain morocco Bradel binding with corners signed É. Carayon, marbled paper covers edged with a gold fillet, spine decorated lengthwise with a frame of gold fillets and fleurons, embossed in the Romantic style (minor scuffing at the top and bottom of the spine and on the corners). Set printed on applied China paper, large format, prior to retouching and trimming of the plates. Complete set of the 32 etchings, in two states, including the pure etching prior to retouching: frontispiece, 28 headpieces, 2 tailpieces, and the vignette from the prospectus (which does not appear in the book), as well as a rejected plate (in one state).
