433 - Félicien Rops, Set of 2 engravings with a blasphemous theme. ca. 1890. 1) The Angel Gabriel. ca. 1890. Heliogravure on laid paper. 215x170 mm. Sheet: 420x310 mm. Title in pencil at the lower right. 2) Les Monstres/la Genése. (The Monsters/Genesis). Heliogravure with soft-ground retouching on Japan paper. 112x190 mm. Sheet: 315x506 mm. A marvelous, rare proof of one of the two engravings intended for the collection *Les Satanoques*. In the final publication, only 5 of the 7 plates were selected; the other excluded engraving, *Satan créant les monstres*, would later be reinterpreted as *Satan semant l’ivraie* (*Satan Sows Discord*). (2) WORK 1: Mounted on backing card at the top margin. Scattered spots and corner imperfections. The print is in good condition. WORK 2: Imperfections at the upper corners due to mounting on a mat. Overall in good condition.
