Signed on the plate in the lower left corner. Titled in brown ink in the lower right corner; alternate title in pencil on the mat. Work created for the series *Les Cent légers croquis sans prétention pour réjouir les honnêtes gens* (1878–1881), commissioned by the bibliophile Jules Noilly to satirize the hypocrisies of respectable bourgeois society. 2) *L’Examen*. (The Exam). ca. 1880. Heliogravure retouched with soft varnish on Japan paper. 280x204 mm. Sheet: 500x320 mm. Initialed on the plate in the lower left corner. Titled in brown ink in the lower right corner. Collection notes on the mat. 3) L’entr’acte/L’Anglaise du nouveau ballet. 1895. Retouched heliogravure on thick paper. 145x100 mm. Sheet: 274x174 mm. The work, a combination of heliotype, etching, and mezzotint, was originally published for the book *Supplément au catalogue de l’oeuvre gravé de Félicien Rops* by Erastène Ramiro. 4) *Ous qu’est le feu?* (Where is the fire?). Heliogravure on Japan paper. 198x140 mm. Sheet size: 455x310 mm. Titled in pencil in the lower right corner. Notes on the mat. Complete engraving of the right-hand side, including the firefighter.
