Michel Fingesten, *La dimanche du bourreau*—Preparatory drawing for *La Danza Macabra*. ca. 1938. Pen and India ink, charcoal, and white lead on paper. 640x495 mm. Mirabella-Bardazzi-Ballerini, 417. Title in the lower margin. A rare preparatory work for the series of 13 engravings and mixed-media pieces created in 1938, of which no more than ten copies were made. The theme, also taken up by other important printmakers such as Alberto Martini, addresses the bitter and desperate reality of war. The work was later reproduced as a photogravure and framed at the lower margin by a macabre drypoint remarque. (1) Tears and creases along the margins. Overall in good condition.
