318 - Giuseppe De Nittis, *La Danseuse Holoke-Go-Zen* (The Lady with the Turkish Shawl/Reclining Woman/Woman Lying Down Wrapped in a Shawl/Fabrics). 1873. Etching with drypoint and burin work on Japanese paper. 213x285 mm. Sheet: 366x555 mm (unfolded). Fiorani-Dinoia, 12. Signed and dated on the plate in the lower left corner. Provenance: Montagner Collection, Bologna. An extremely rare proof print dating between the second and third states of IV, prior to the inscriptions on the lower margin but after the drypoint reinforcement on the upper part of the shading. Sheet complete with its wide, original margins (albeit folded). Of these very few proof sheets, approximately 4 are known to exist, and only 2 have been located. The work was created in 1873 and published the following year in *Cadart* in the album *L’Eau Forte Moderne* No. 15. The engraving depicts a woman in a kimono, drawing inspiration from various examples of Japanese prints that were circulating in Parisian artistic circles at the end of the 19th century. (1) Work in an elegant frame with glass: 46.3 × 50 cm. Excellent condition.
