CHARLES STUART (SCOTTISH 19TH CENTURY)THE MONARCH OF THE GLENOil canvasSigned (lower right)59 x 89cm (23 x 35 in.) Condtion Report: The work is glazed and has been unexamined out of the frame. It has not been re-lined. The stretcher marks are visible, most notably to the upper and left edges. Fine craquelure is present but the surface appears to be stable. Some minor abrasions the the extreme upper edge commensurate with rubbing to the frame. Inspection under UV reveals a slightly uneven varnish and some small restorations to the sky. There are further small areas of infilling and strengthening scattered throughout, including to the mountains, greenery and water. A slightly more concentrated area of retouching is present above the stag and doe. The picture appears to have been cleaned and re-varnished.
