Mas de Provence Collection: An Eclectic Showcase at Hôtel Drouot

A rtello presents a collection of contemporary art that reflects the discerning eye of Mr M., who has brought together an impressive array of works over the years at his Provençal farmhouse. Ceramics, jewellery, textiles, paintings, lighting, furniture, objets d’art and one-of-a-kind pieces come together in a collection of remarkable diversity.
The collection includes several sculptures by Dominique Pouchain, notably an imposing Cervidé, an enamelled ceramic work created around 2015 (estimate: €6,000–9,000). The sale also features sculptures by Igor Mitoraj, including Helios, a bronze with a Sienna-earth patina (estimate: €3,000–4,000).

Among the contemporary art highlights is an iconic inclusion work by Arman, Tubes de Peinture (estimate: €2,500–3,500), alongside a wool tapestry by Leonor Fini, Jeu de sphinges, signed and numbered 58/150 (estimate: €400–600). The selection also includes three of Yayoi Kusama’s celebrated pumpkin motifs, printed here on nylon, including Dots Obsession (2004; estimate: €300–400).

The sale further presents a small portrait of Claude Duboscq by Marie Vassilieff, executed using mixed media, cut-out elements and aluminium. The work bears witness to the particularly close artistic and personal relationship between the painter and the composer (estimate: €1,000–1,500).

Collectors of decorative arts will be drawn to a selection of Murano glass vases, estimated at €200–300 to €600–800, as well as blown-glass wall lights attributed to Gio Ponti, with estimates of €800–1,200.

Line Vautrin is also well represented, with around fifteen lots of objects in bronze and talosel, ranging in estimate from €80–120 to €1,000–1,500. Mithé Espelt and Marion de Crécy also feature, with several mirrors crafted in earthenware and ceramic.

Finally, the sale offers an appealing selection of ceramics by distinguished artists including Roger Capron, Jacques Blin, Élisabeth Joulia, Jean Besnard, Alice Colonieu, Gilbert Portanier, Albert Thiry, and Robert and Jean Cloutier.
