Brigitte SIMON (1926-2009) Dix-neuf objets" small artist's book, Paris, 2002, numbered 12/19 19 drypoints on pur fil du Moulin de Fleurac paper Signed copy Height 16.5 cm; Width 13.5 cm (the book) Brigitte Simon was born into a large family of Reims glassmakers, and learned the art of stained glass in her father's workshop. Also an engraver and painter, she worked with renowned artists such as Joseph Sima, Serge Poliakoff, Maria Helena Vieira da Silva and Marc Chagall. She was commissioned to produce numerous stained-glass windows, notably for the cathedrals of Reims and Nantes. She illustrates books and collaborates with Claude Esteban to illustrate his poems in La Saison Dévastée. In 1989, the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Reims devoted a major retrospective to her work. Joerg ORTNER (1940 -2011) To the poet Paul CELAN 12 intaglio plates on "Rives B.F.K" paper, numbered 70/120 Imprimerie Lacourière-Frélaut, Paris Height 52 cm; Width: 52 cm (per sheet) Provenance : - Galerie Jacques Elbaz, July 2007 An Austrian engraver and painter, Joerg Ortner trained at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and moved to Paris in 1961. He first joined the Lacourière-Frélaut workshop, then Alberto Giacometti's studio, before practicing his art with the Louvre's Chalcographie restoration department. His etchings combine several techniques, including etching, burin, aquatint, drypoint and manière noire. By inverting blacks and whites, he produces remarkable negative prints. The major "Tholos" series kept him busy for ten years. His work is exhibited at the Centre Georges Pompidou.
