SERGIO CASTILLO MANDIOLA (Santiago de Chile, 1925 - 2010). "Gallo". Eisen. Sockel aus marmoriertem Marmor. Maße: 39 x 27 x 47 cm (Skulptur); 6 x 15 x 15 x 15 cm (Sockel). Der dem Konstruktivismus verbundene Bildhauer und Akademiker studierte Zeichnen an der École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts und der Académie Julian in Paris und setzte seine Studien an der Schule der Schönen Künste in Chile fort, wo er bei Professoren wie Marta Colvin und Julio Antonio Vasquez Bildhauerei studierte. Ab 1967 unterrichtet er an der Schule der Schönen Künste. Dank eines Stipendiums ging er in die Vereinigten Staaten, wo er weiterhin als Lehrer tätig war. In den 1970er Jahren war er Präsident des chilenischen Maler- und Bildhauerverbands, und 1995 wurde er Vollmitglied der Akademie der Schönen Künste des Instituts von Chile. Castillo Mandiola war der erste Bildhauer, der den Auftrag erhielt, eine abstrakte Skulptur zu schaffen, die im öffentlichen Raum ausgestellt werden sollte. Sein bildhauerisches Werk zeichnet sich durch eine besondere Technik aus, die auf der Verwendung von Metallplatten und -teilen basiert, um abstrakte Kompositionen mit geometrischem Gleichgewicht zu schaffen.
