SIGEBERTUS GEMBLACENSIS Chronicon ab anno 381 ad 1113 cum insertionibus ex historia Galfridi & additionibus Roberti abbatis Montis [...]. Paris H. (I) Estienne for J. Later sheep, spine with 4 raised bands and paper label, sp. edges (rubbed). Good copy. "First edition of this popular universal chronicle, by the Belgian Benedictine (ca. 1030-1112). The editor, Guillaume Parvy, confessor to Louis XII, and later bishop of Troyes and Senlis, was the first scholar to undertake the task of publishing the sources of medieval history from ancient manuscripts. Parvy has brought Sigebert’s Chronicon down to the year 1216 by adding the continuations of Geoffroy of Monmouth and Robert of Thorigny" (Schreiber). Printed in red and black throughout.
