SHABTI DELL’ANTICO EGITTO DEDICATO A HUY NUOVO REGNO, XIX DINASTIA, 1292-1190 a.C. fianza, di forma mummiforme, con in mano un piccone e una zappa e un cesto sulla schiena, dipinta con geroglifici su tutti i lati, montata su un supporto su misura Altezza: 13,5 cm Provenienza: Collezione privata, Cambridge, Regno Unito; acquisito nel XIX secolo Gli shabti, noti anche come “figure rispondenti”, venivano collocati nella tomba affinché lo spirito del proprietario non fosse costretto a svolgere lavori manuali nell’aldilà. Spesso recavano incisa l’iscrizione del capitolo 6 del Libro dei Morti, il testo dello shabti, un incantesimo che costringe lo shabti a sostituirsi al proprietario qualora a quest’ultimo venisse chiesto di arare i campi, irrigare la terra o trasportare sabbia da est a ovest.
