Stella Steyn, irlandese, 1907-1987 - Ispirato a Renoir; olio su tavola, 53,5 x 30,5 cm (ARR) Provenienza: studio dell’artista; collezione privata Nota: Steyn faceva parte di una cerchia di personalità culturali irlandesi nella Parigi dell’epoca tra le due guerre, che comprendeva Samuel Beckett e James Joyce. Steyn realizzò in seguito le illustrazioni per una prima versione del «Finnegans Wake» di Joyce, intitolata «Anna Livia Plurabelle». Successivamente si recò in Germania, dove studiò al Bauhaus sotto la guida di Paul Klee e Joseph Albers. Si stabilì nella Londra del dopoguerra, dove espose presso le prestigiose Leicester Galleries nel 1951 e, in seguito, insieme a Ivon Hitchens. Le sue opere fanno parte di collezioni pubbliche, tra cui la Government Art Collection e la Arts Council Collection, che possiede un’opera simile al presente lotto, «Ragazza in abito blu, 1951».
