S.1692 (etichetta sul retro di ciascuna opera); collezione privata, Svizzera L’opera artistica del pittore marino inglese Thomas Buttersworth (1768–1842) fu influenzata in modo determinante dalle esperienze maturate durante il servizio nella Royal Navy tra il 1795 e il 1800. Si specializzò nella rappresentazione di battaglie navali, navi da guerra e paesaggi marini. In seguito lavorò anche come pittore di marine per la Compagnia britannica delle Indie orientali. I suoi dipinti si distinguono per la fedele riproduzione dei dettagli delle navi e per la rappresentazione suggestiva del mare e del cielo.
