Abdullah Selim 1950 Baghdad, attivo in Ticino Composizione orizzontale. 1991 Bronzo, patinato di verde Firmato sul lato sinistro e numerato in modo poco leggibile: Selim (...) Lunghezza 82 cm, altezza 40 cm Selim Abdullah ha studiato inizialmente all’Istituto di Belle Arti di Baghdad e successivamente all’Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze, dove nel 1979 ha conseguito la laurea in scultura. Dal 1981 vive e lavora in Ticino. Nella sua produzione scultorea, influenzata sia dalla scultura classica che dall’arte moderna, la figura umana è al centro dell’attenzione. Le sue figure, spesso fragili e dall’aspetto vulnerabile, affrontano temi quali la sofferenza umana, la memoria e le esperienze storiche. Oltre a sculture di piccole dimensioni, ha realizzato anche opere monumentali per lo spazio pubblico. Nel 2003 il Museo d’arte di Mendrisio gli ha dedicato un’ampia retrospettiva.
