Arnold Houbraken, nato a Dordrecht (Olanda) nel 1660 e morto nel 1719. Allievo di van Drillenburg, di J. La Vecq e di Hoogstraten, si stabilì ad Amsterdam e soggiornò a Londra per circa un anno. Si distingue per uno stile molto curato. Era molto versato in materia di antichità e scrisse una biografia dei pittori fiamminghi e olandesi in 3 volumi in 8."
