Questa incisione su lastra di rame colorata a mano è tratta dall’opera *A History of the Earth and Animated Nature* di Oliver Goldsmith (1728-1774), pubblicata da A. Fullarton, Londra 1850. Quest’opera mirava a raccogliere praticamente tutto ciò che si sapeva sulle piante e sugli animali del pianeta. La *Animated Nature* di Goldsmith conobbe oltre venti edizioni fino all’epoca vittoriana e costituì una popolare fonte di informazioni sul mondo naturale.
