L’Architectural Association fu fondata nel 1847 come alternativa alla pratica di formare i giovani attraverso l’apprendistato presso architetti affermati. Le tavole contenute nell’album di schizzi mostrano planimetrie, prospetti, modanature e altri dettagli architettonici, opere in muratura, lavorazioni metalliche, sculture, dipinti e terrecotte relative a edifici selezionati risalenti dal XII al XVIII secolo in Gran Bretagna, nel continente europeo, in Grecia, a Cipro, in Turchia, in Siria, in Egitto e in Algeria.
