John Callow, Scena sulla spiaggia ampia spiaggia con fila di case, barche ormeggiate e persone; sullo sfondo, una scogliera ripida e ricoperta di alberi; sul margine sinistro del quadro, mare calmo; acquerello dai colori tenui su carta, firmato e datato in basso a sinistra “John Callow 1856”, sul retro adesivo della galleria, tra l’altro con il titolo «Sidmouth Seafront, Devon», lievi segni di usura dovuti all’età, incorniciato con passe-partout e vetro, apertura del passe-partout ca. 35 x 63 cm. Informazioni sull’artista: pittore inglese (1822 Greenwich – 1878 Londra), dal 1835 allievo di suo fratello William Callow, residente a Londra dal 1843, partecipò fino al 1848 alle mostre della New Water Colour Society e, dal 1850, a quelle della Old Water Colour Society, dal 1855 insegnante al Military College di Addiscombe, dal 1861 al 1863 presso la Royal Military Academy di Woolwich e, dal 1875, al Queens College di Londra; fonte: Thieme-Becker
