DOROTHEA WIGHT (1944 - 2013) - "A day in august" - acquerello - firmato a matita - numerato 36/50 - scuola inglese - 34 x 29 cm Dorothea Wight (born in Devon, England, in 1944; died in 2013 in Muswell Hill, London) was a British printmaker and artist. She is best known for founding Studio Prints on Queen's Crescent, a print workshop where artists' editions were produced. There, she collaborated with some of the most significant contemporary British artists, including Frank Auerbach, Lucian Freud, Ken Kiff, R.B. Kitaj, Leon Kossoff, Celia Paul, Paula Rego, William Turnbull, Kim Lim, and more than a hundred others. [1] In 1973, she married her collaborator at the workshop, Marc Balakjian. Together, they were instrumental in introducing a wide range of techniques to British printmaking through Studio Prints, and the workshop was considered to be "at the forefront of British printmaking for forty years." She was also an accomplished artist in her own right, recognized for her mezzotints, which were showcased worldwide in countless solo and group exhibitions. Her work is held in several permanent collections in the United Kingdom, including those of the Victoria and Albert Museum, the British Museum, the British Council, the Arts Council of Great Britain, the Museum of London, the Fitzwilliam Museum, and the New Art Gallery Walsall. Her work can also be found in major collections in France, Germany, Poland, Belgium, Norway, and Australia.
