LEO VAN DER SMISSEN (1900 - 1966) - "Interno di Bruges con stufa di Lovanio" - olio su tela - firmato - 60 x 65 cm Leo Vandersmissen was a Belgian painter associated with what is known as the Bruges School. Vandersmissen had a brother, Frans Vandersmissen (1894–1964), who became a sculptor and also settled in Bruges. From 1913 to 1919, Leo studied at the Bruges Academy of Fine Arts, primarily under Flori Van Acker. He won several first prizes there. He subsequently continued his studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent... Vandersmissen was a late Impressionist with a predilection for Luminism.
