Papua Nuova Guinea - Washkuk, Kwoma Figura femminile in piedi "nogwi" Legno, pigmenti Piedistallo Le figure “nogwi” rivestivano un ruolo centrale nei rituali di iniziazione e di fertilità dei Kwoma. Rappresentavano le mitiche antenate “Hameiyau” e “Sanggriayau” e venivano portate nella casa delle cerimonie durante complesse cerimonie. I rituali erano accompagnati da esibizioni musicali con flauti sacri, trombe di conchiglia e di legno, dalla costruzione di strutture rituali e da cerimonie notturne con il tamburo d’acqua. Le figure incarnavano poteri soprannaturali ed erano considerate manifestazioni di entità spirituali femminili, alle quali venivano attribuite azioni simboliche come la distruzione di vasi di terracotta.
