GOUNOD (Charles) (1818-1893). Compositore francese. Primo Gran Premio di Roma nel 1839. Lettera autografa «Ch. Gounod» al suo amico, il pittore Jules Richomme. S.l., 9 febbraio 1868. 2 pagine in-12. Pieghe e segni di usura. Interessante lettera in cui Charles Gounod accenna a un intervento presso il conte di Nieuwerkerke a favore del pittore Jules Richomme. «Come ti avevo promesso, ho parlato con il mio collega di Nieuwerkerke. Mi ha detto che pensava ancora alla tua faccenda di Bordeaux: si è ricordato perfettamente di te. Mi ha detto che mancava solo una cosa: il denaro. Quel maledetto denaro! Lo riconosco bene: non fa mai altro. Non appena questa difficoltà sarà appianata, Nieuwerkerke mi ha assicurato che potrai contare su di lui.» Questa lettera testimonia le iniziative intraprese da Gounod per sostenere il suo amico Jules Richomme (1818-1906), pittore e incisore francese. Alfred Émilien O'Hara, conte di Nieuwerkerke (1811-1892), era all'epoca sovrintendente alle Belle Arti e ricopriva un ruolo fondamentale nell'amministrazione artistica del Secondo Impero.
