Frederic Whiting, britannico 1874-1962- Ritratto del brigadiere Hartley Maconochie, seduto a mezzo busto, in uniforme; olio su tela, firmato "Frederic Whiting" (in alto a sinistra), 91,1 x 76 cm. (non incorniciato). ARR. Provenienza: Collezione privata, Regno Unito. Note: Whiting studiò alla St John's School of Art, alla Royal Academy Schools e all'Académie Julian di Parigi, per poi insegnare alla Heatherley School of Fine Art, insieme a Iain Macnab (1890-1967) e Bernard Adams (1884-1965). Lavorò anche come corrispondente di guerra per il giornale Graphic, dove coprì la guerra russo-giapponese, tra gli altri eventi. Fu un artista prolifico, celebre per i suoi ritratti dignitosi, spesso raffiguranti figure militari in uniforme, come nel presente lavoro e in alcuni dipinti conservati all'Imperial War Museum [IWM ART 3056; IWM ART 2000].
