Provenienza: Collezione privata, Regno Unito. Nota: L’opera in questione presenta somiglianze con i ritratti di gentiluomini eleganti realizzati da Drouais, richiamando alla mente opere simili dello stesso autore vendute da Christie’s, New York, il 12 febbraio 2026, lotto 227, e l’8 giugno 2011, lotto 61. «De l’esprit des lois», noto in inglese anche come «The Spirit of the Laws», è un trattato di teoria politica e un’opera pionieristica di diritto comparato di Montesquieu (1689-1755), pubblicata per la prima volta nel 1748.
