Seguace di Guido Reni, italiano, 1575-1642- Il Bambino Gesù addormentato sulla croce; olio su tela, reca un’etichetta con iscrizione sul retro, 55 x 62 cm. Provenienza: Robert Norris. Venduto a Cheltenham, 11 giugno 1863. Collezione privata, Regno Unito. Nota: Il presente dipinto sembra ispirarsi a un olio di Guido Reni, di cui una copia è conservata nella collezione della Walker Art Gallery di Liverpool [WAG 2801]. È inoltre affine al Cristo addormentato sulla croce di Cristofano Allori (1577-1621), conservato a Palazzo Pitti, a Firenze, e a un olio sullo stesso soggetto di Francesco Albani (1578-1660), venduto all’asta del Conte di Yarborough, da Christie’s, a Londra, il 12 luglio 1929, lotto 6. Il bambino, raffigurato a figura intera mentre giace addormentato, è avvolto in un drappo traslucido e disteso su una croce di legno. Un’opera molto simile, con lievi differenze, è stata venduta da Phillips, a Londra, il 15 dicembre 1998, lotto 217.
